Ethel L. Manuel Roberts' Obituary
Ethel Louise Manuel Roberts, “Popeye” of Laurel, DE passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.
She was born on September 24, 1924 in Greenville, NC, the daughter of the late Willie Manuel and Pearl Manuel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver E. Roberts on December 25, 2004.
She had been a senior companion and also had worked for the Vlasics Company. She was a member of Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ in Laurel, where she was known as “Mother Manuel”. She enjoyed doing puzzles and loved her cat, “Bob”.
She will be dearly missed by her four nieces, Irma Owens of Laurel, Patricia Parker of Laurel, Esther M. Williams and her husband Cornell of Erial, New Jersey, Stephanie A. Butler-Brunswick and her husband Michael of Wilmington, three nephews, Douglas Butler of Laurel, Michael Butler and his wife, Lisa, of Wilmington, Patrick Butler of Seaford, two adopted daughters, Virginia Jackson and her husband Theobald of Delmar, MD, Barbara Ann Dodson of Washington, DC, an adopted granddaughter, Raveen Moore and her husband, Todd, Sr. and their children, Todd Moore, Jr., Shontale Moore, Chavon Truitt all of Delmar, DE, a special great-niece, Rev. Diane Lewis and her husband, Charles of Atlanta, GA, a devoted caretaker and friend, Starr Crockett, a senior companion, Tomsinia Matthews, her physician for over twenty years, Dr. Pruitt and his wife, Kim, and two sisters-in-law, Reba Gaines and Elizabeth Roberts both of Laurel, and several great nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for her will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ in Laurel, DE with Elder C.L. Blackshear officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9-11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro.
