Evelyn Coulbourn's Obituary
Evelyn Irene Coulbourn of Oak Grove, DE, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009 at LifeCare at Lofland Park in Seaford. She was 88 years old.
She was born Nov. 2, 1920 in Federalsburg, MD the daughter of the late Willie Fulton Bailey and Gertie Elizabeth Trader Bailey. Her husband of 59 years, Edward Wilson Coulbourn, preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2001.
She was a Federalsburg High School graduate Class of 1937. She had worked in the former Button Factory, in the Canning Factory and at the E.I. DuPont cafeteria. She worked with her husband as a farmer and chicken grower, retiring in 2000. She and her husband raised and raced horses for many years, and she loved her dog, Missy. She enjoyed gardening and preserving fruits and vegetables, and was known as a great cook, especially famous for her dumplings.
She is survived by five children, Donald E. Coulbourn (Ruth Ann) of Seaford, Richard C. Coulbourn (Faye) of Federalsburg, Sue Ann Ellis (Jim) of Seaford, Jo Ann Slacum (Stanley) of Bridgeville, DE, and Gail E. Nagel (Dennis) of Federalsburg; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was the youngest of 10 children with only sister surviving, Jessie May Wheatley of New Jersey, and is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by 8 siblings, Guy Bailey, Elsie Morgan, Ada Harding, Clifford Bailey, Bill Bailey, Mary McMahan, Dot Thawley, and Ruth Dickerson.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church near Seaford, DE with Rev. Dr. Everett C. Isaacs officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
