Evelyn Botjer Custis' Obituary
Evelyn Botjer Custis of Hartly, Delaware died on Monday, June 22, 2026 at Bayhealth Hospital in Dover, Delaware. She was 91.
She was born on September 1, 1934 in Federalsburg, Maryland; the daughter of the late William Botjer and Fannie Lee Botjer.
She was married to Haven S. Custis and they made their home in Federalsburg. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1989.
Evelyn's professional journey included notable tenures at Maryland Plastics and Lywood Electric, as well as at H & R Block, where she committed her talents and time. Outside of her work, Evelyn was actively involved in her church community as a past member of Christ Church, where she found joy in culinary pursuits, often working in the basement kitchen to nourish others.
Her community involvement extended beyond the church, as she was a proud member of the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Evelyn played an integral role in organizing the annual carnival, showcasing her unwavering dedication to her community and her belief in the power of unity.
Evelyn's greatest joy, however, came from her family. As a devoted mother and grandmother, she cherished moments spent with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her son Haven Custis Jr, his wife Nicole, and her grandchildren: Haven III, and Henrietta both of Hartly, DE. As well as her nephew Jeff Tribbitt, his wife Kristine, and daughter Madilyn of New Market, MD.
Evelyn's warmth, compassion, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and dedication to family and community that will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her life.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 11:00 at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg. The Reverend Mark Tenefoss will officiate. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00.
