Evelyne H. Garner's Obituary
A lifelong resident of Tilghman Island, Evelyne Harrison Garner, passed away on December 27, 2023, at the age of 87. She was born to Edward "Boss" and Hilda Harrison on April 25, 1936. Evelyne grew up in St. Michaels and graduated from St. Michaels High School in 1954. Following graduation, she worked for Harrison and Jarboe, a local canning company, for ten years before starting a family. She married her high school sweetheart, Ronald "Ronnie" Stinchcomb in June of 1956 and they settled in Tilghman. They celebrated three beautiful children, Mac, Ronda, and Holly until his premature passing in 1982. Despite her devasting loss, Evelyne continued to manage her husband's family farm business, local bookkeeping businesses, and raising three children on her own. Then in 1986, Don Garner, who she knew from high school came back into her life. They married in 1987 and spent many years traveling and socializing with close friends. In 2017, after 30 years of marriage, she mourned the loss of a second husband. Her strength and resilience were unparalleled.
Evie continued her parents' tradition and hosted an annual Christmas party each year for her entire family. She was extremely festive, and this was one of her most cherished events. She made sure everything was perfect for her family. She always surrounded herself with those she loved, and she was loved by all that surrounded her. You didn't have to be a "relative" to be loved by Evie. She often entered a room with the friendly greeting "Yoo-Hoo". Her grandchildren picked that up as a nickname for her and it continues to be used by generations of her family.
During the fifty plus years she lived on Camper Circle, she loved the wandering cat at her doorstep and would take care of any animal that needed her. Evie would prefer to take care of her friends, family, or animals before herself.
She was loved by many, especially her friends and family of Tilghman Island and was extremely close to her neighbors on Camper Circle who would stop in throughout the day to ensure she was ok. Her love of family and fellowship allowed her to maintain friendships even after moving to Easton. She volunteered at the Talbot Humane Society fostering kittens and reluctantly having to give them back. She socialized many kittens and helped place them in permanent homes.
Along with her love for animals, Evie had a passion for crafting which later led to sewing. Each week she would gather with her closest friends, crafting or crocheting gifts for others for birthdays, holidays, or just because. We would often wonder if it was about sewing or gossiping.
Evie was a selfless person that loved life and would help all those around her. She was a strong woman that never complained about the obstacles she faced, but instead she always wore a smile. Her family will remember her most by her famous saying "Sometimes you have to make your own sunshine."
Children and grandchildren were her proudest achievements in life; that is what made her happy. She loved to watch them learn and grow and become amazing, kind humans, following her in family footsteps. She was the matriarch and glue that held the family together.
She is predeceased by her parents, Edward "Boss" and Hilda Harrison, her brother, Marion "Skip" Harrison, her brother-in-law, Donald "Bull" Howeth and her granddaughters, Rebecca Garner and Shelby Stinchcomb. She is survived by her sisters, Kay Howeth and Malia Anderson (John), her children Gordon "Mac" Stinchcomb (Julie), Ronda K Stinchcomb (Chuck), Holly A Moscone (Michael), step-son Brent Garner (Lynn); her granddaughters, April Loughry (Bobby ), Nichole Hopkins ("T"), Jessica Basel (Tony), and Kendal Scharch, her grandsons, Ronnie Scharch (Lauren), Charlie and Danny Moscone, her great-grandchildren, Luke and Samantha Basel, Raelyn and Tyhj Hopkins and Garner and Grady Loughry, as well as six nieces, six nephews and many grand nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Talbot Human Society or the United Methodist Church of Tilghman Island.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2nd from 11am - 1pm at Tilghman Methodist Church. Service begins at 1pm followed by a private burial. Friends are encouraged to gather after services are concluded at Tilghman Volunteer Fire Department for fellowship.
