Florence Carol Murphy's Obituary
Florence Carol Murphy, 84, the beloved matron of the Murphy family, passed away on January 13, 2025, at the Talbot Hospice House with her loving family by her side. Born on March 16, 1940, in Tilghman, Florence's greatest joy and achievement was her large, close-knit family.
As a mother of five, grandmother of fourteen, great-grandmother of eighteen, soon to be nineteen, and great-great-grandmother of one, Florence was the heart of her family. She was a wonderful cook, and her kitchen was the gathering place for family dinners and holiday celebrations.
Florence started working at an early age in various places on Tilghman Island including the fishing boarding houses, many restaurants, Tilghman Packing Company, and Tilghman Methodist Church. She was also often on the boat, working alongside her husband.
Florence is survived by her children, Teresa (Craig), Karen Sue (Jim), Pam, Sissy, and Bart; her fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; her siblings Johnny, Christine, and Sally; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Bart; her parents Alexander and Nannie Belle Newnam Haddaway; and her siblings Shirley, Suzanne, Nanette, and Georgie.
Florence’s celebration of life service will be held on February 8 at 2 pm at St. John's Chapel, 5160 Black Walnut Point Road, Tilghman. The service will be followed by a gathering at the Tilghman Volunteer Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Talbot Hospice House Foundation or St. John’s Chapel.
