Florrie W. Hargrove
St. Michaels, Florrie Wood Hargrove, 90, a resident of St. Michaels, Maryland and formerly of Silver Spring, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 6th in God’s arms.
Florrie was born in Warrenton, North Carolina on February 23rd, 1921. She moved to Washington, DC and attended Central High School then went to work at the Navy Department procurement office. She met Dave Hargrove at a church function and they were soon wed August 1st, 1940. The Navy took them to Southern California where their first son Richard was born followed by Patrick and then John.
Florrie was first an optimist which endeared her to all she met. Her friends in Silver Spring viewed her as a mother to all the neighborhood children whom she followed throughout their and her lives. Her devotion to family was unwavering, particularly to Patrick, to whom she was ardently committed.
Florrie, along with sons Richard and John, began the family career in Servpro in May of 1974. Her support grew Servpro from 2 businesses in Maryland to its present 39 operations over a 31 year career. Beyond her family, sports were her next greatest love. From watching the Washington Redskins with “Slinging” Sammy Ball at Old Griffith Stadium to the present sad state of affairs of the current team she stayed forever vigilant in her love of the game. She never missed one of her boys’ events throughout her life.
Florrie was preceded in death by her husband Raymond David, sisters Rowena and Mary Robert and brother Arthur Arrington (double A) Wood. She is survived by her three sons Richard (and Kathleen), Patrick and John (and Nancy) and 6 grandchildren Katie (and Mike) Endzel, Kimberly Hargrove, Matt Hargrove, Nick Hargrove, Colleen (and Tim) Miller, and Kelly Rose Hargrove.
