Flossie Marie Conway's Obituary
Flossie Marie Conway, “Mother”, of Hurlock, MD passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 85.
She was born on September 8, 1930 in Williamsburg, Maryland, the daughter of the late Samuel Newcomb and Catherine Cornish Newcomb. She was married to the late Franklin C. “June Bug” Conway, who preceded her in death on January 15, 1983.
Flossie attended public schools in Dorchester County. She was employed for a number of years as a line worker for the Harper-Bateman Pickle Company in Hurlock. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and singing. Her favorite foods were winter cress, chitterlings, potato salad, sweet potato biscuits, rice pudding, and the best yeast rolls. She was also a member of The National Church of God in Hurlock, where she served as Sunday School Teacher, Usher, Treasurer and Choir member. She loved to sing. Her favorite song was One Day at a Time.
She is survived by five sons, Thomas Newcomb (Elizabeth) of Seaford, DE, Franklin Conway of Hurlock, Carroll Conway of Hurlock, Reginald Conway (Brenda) of Laurel, DE and Ronald Conway (Loraine) of South Toms River, NJ; four daughters, Margarett Newcomb, Debbie Dobson, Alyce Berdaux, all of Hurlock, and Cherlyon Conway of Cambridge; two sisters, Victoria Jones of Williamsburg and Amanda Conway of Hurlock; a brother, Joseph Newcomb of Williamsburg; a sister in law, Dorothy Palmer of Hurlock; a brother in law, Henry Thomas of Hurlock; a very special friend, Dorothy Autrey of Hurlock; Caregiver Mary Lawrence; 34 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by four sons, Leroy Newcomb, Keith Conway, Vaughn Conway and Kendall Conway; one daughter, Cynthia Conway; one great-great grandson, Aaron Lawrence; two sisters, Josephine Aldridge and Elsie Meekins; and two brothers, Oliver Tinley and Oscar Newcomb.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 12 p.m. at the Hurlock United Methodist Church in Hurlock with Minister Jermaine Newcomb officiating. Interment will follow at the Eastern Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service.
