Frederic E. Ireland, Sr. Easton - Frederic E. Ireland, Sr. of Easton died peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Heartfields of Easton. He was 86 years old. Born on October 23, 1928 in Lewistown, Talbot Co., MD., Fred was the son of Herbert E. and Bessie Covey Ireland. After graduating from St. Michaels High School in 1945, he lived in Trappe and worked for the Coca Cola Bottling Co. as a route man. After moving to Easton, he married Pauline “Polly†N. Morgan on Nov. 5, 1950. He was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War and began his 2 years of service on January 10, 1951, serving both stateside and in Germany. Upon his return to Easton, he worked for Delmarva Narrow Fabrics and the Howard Furniture Co. In the early 1970’s, Fred purchased the Irish Frozen Carbonated Beverage Co. (IFCB), a company he owned and operated until the late 1990’s. He last worked as a technician for Eastern Saw and Tool before retiring in 2012. Fred was an active life member in the Easton Vol. Fire Dept. for 60 years serving as an Engineer, Trustee, Vice President and President. In 2014, he was presented with the EVFD Secretary’s Award for being an outstanding consultant and advisor. He was a member of the Talbot Co. Fire and Rescue Association, serving as President, 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President, and the Delmarva Vol. Firemen’s Association, serving as 2nd Vice President and a delegate from 1978 to 2014. He also served as a delegate to the Maryland State Firemen’s Association from 1976 to 2014 as well as a member of its Legislative Committee. In 2006, he received the Marbery Gates Service Cup Award from them for 50 years continuous service. He is in the Talbot Co. Firefighter’s Hall of Fame, the Eastern Shore Firefighter’s Hall of Fame and the Delmarva Firefighter’s Hall of Fame. Fred was also an active member in the Easton Church of the Brethren where he served on the Stewards Committee and the Church Board, the International Order of Odd Fellows where he served as Noble Grand, VFW Post #5118, American Legion Post #70, BPOE Lodge #1622, Easton Rotary and Talbot Co. AARP where he served as president. He was a past member and chairman of the Easton Housing Authority and also the served on the Talbot Co. Election Board. He was recognized for his 50+ years of service with citations from the State of MD Governor’s Office, the MD Senate, the MD House of Representatives, the Easton Mayor’s Office and the Town of Easton. Fred enjoyed photography and often combined it with his love of flying. As an avid pilot, he especially loved flying for and with his lifelong friend, Bill Newnam, of MD Airlines in Easton. He is survived by two sons, Frederic E. “Jay†Ireland, Jr. and David L. Ireland, both of Easton, 3 grandchildren, Phillip E. Ireland of Mt. Joy, PA, Scott H. Ireland of Trappe and Morgan B. Ireland, USAF, TX, a brother, Leroy Ireland and his wife, Louise, of Easton, a sister, Frances E. Denbeck of Chestertown, a sister-in-law, Myrle Ireland, of Easton, 8 nieces, 5 nephews, several great nieces and nephews, his dear and devoted friends, Maurice “Bud†and Connie Wallace of Oxford and his especially dear friend who was a loving and devoted companion for 29 yrs., Barbara Taylor of Denton, formerly of Easton and her daughters, Jane Marvel and her family of Queenstown and Jill Taylor of Baltimore. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of almost 36 years, Polly, who died on Sept. 28, 1986, a sister, Hazel M. Willis and her husband, Laurence, Sr., two brothers, J. Samuel Ireland and Phillip E. Ireland and his wife, Bernice, and a brother-in-law, John “Jr.†Denbeck. Services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Easton Vol. Fire Dept., where a viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00PM. Interment will be in the New Springhill Cemetery. The family would like to thank those who cared for Fred during his illness including Dr. Ludwig J. Egelseder, III and his staff, UMSMC of Easton, The Pines- Genesis Eldercare, Heartland House, Heartfields of Easton and Talbot Hospice. The loving care and compassion shown to him during his time with you is greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten.
