Mr. Frederick H Schmick's Obituary
Frederick Harold Schmick, Sr., 91, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at University of Maryland Medical System at Easton. He was born on February 5, 1927 in Preston, Maryland the son of the late John T. and Elsie E. Goehringer Schmick. After graduation from Preston High School he served in the US Navy for two years. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1960 earning a BS Degree in Industrial Arts Education.
He began farming at Spring Garden Farms in 1952 the year he married Jeanette Isler. He farmed for 40 years growing vegetable crops and small grains. He was known for the delicious cantaloupes, honeydews, and watermelons he grew. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of Provident State Bank for 22 years. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, and playing bridge.
He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston where he taught Sunday school for over 20 years, served on the church council and was congregational president for 15 years.
He was an active member of the Maryland Farm Bureau, past member of the Preston Lions Club. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Choptank Community Health Systems for 14 years.
Fred is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jeanette Schmick, whom he married on November 22, 1952, three children, Frederick Schmick, Jr. (Patricia), Carol Trice (Jeff) , Ruth S. Thomas (Dale), four grandchildren, Jordan Glover ( Joshua), Rebekah Trice, Sarah Trice, Kathryn Trice, Charles Fry (Kimberly), William Fry, Dylan Vickers (Meghan), and great-grandchildren, Aireal and Dax Vickers, a brother, Victor L. Schmick ( Betty). He was preceded in death by siblings, Leona Wrightson, Kenneth Schmick, John Schmick, Jr., Edna Warren, and Betty Shirey.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David-Casey-Motley officiating. Interment will follow at Junior Order Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
