Dr. Gary Martin Piekarek's Obituary
Dr. Gary Martin Piekarek of Greenwood passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Tidal Health (Nanticoke) Hospital in Seaford, Delaware. He was 68.
He was born on September 12, 1956 in Holly, Michigan, the son of the late Rudolf Piekarek and Esther Huffman Piekarek.
He was married to Carol Swift on December 4, 1988.
He graduated from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI with a B.S. in Biophysics. He later graduated frm Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, CA and completed his residency at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint, MI.
He taught medical students at Michigan State University School of Medicine and was an attending physician at Welch Emergency Hospital in Welch, WV from 1984-1990. He later worked in Delaware at Genesis Elder Care - The Milford Center, Harrison Senior Living of Georgetown, and Yoders Care Center in Milford. He also established his own private practice in Milford from 1990 - 2011.
He was a past Chairman with the Department of Family Practice, Assistant Chairman, Department of Family Practice, Member of the Infection Control Committee and the Credentials Committee at Milford Memorial Hospital/Bayhealth Sussex.
In his free time, he enjoyed collecting medical medallions, books, plates and nautical items of interest. He was a member of the Forest Grove Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cheswold, DE and also attended the Federalsburg Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Federalsburg, MD.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carol Swift Piekarek of Greenwood, a brother Dietmar Piekarek of Spring Book, NY, and a niece Erica Lopez of Holly, MI, and many other cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home - Fleischauer Chapel in Greenwood with Pastor Brian Litzenberger and Pastor Javier Scharon officiating. Interment will follow at St. Johnstown Cemetery in Greenwood. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00.
