George W. Zachmann
On March 25, 2015 George Zachmann passed away at his home in Neavitt, MD at the age of 72. He was born in Astoria, NY and grew up in Ridgewood, Queens. As a young man George served in the U.S. Army and was stationed overseas in Thailand. After graduating from Queens College, George studied for his graduate degree at Long Island University.
For most of his professional life, George was in the Satellite Communications industry with an emphasis on International Marketing. He spent several years working at Magnavox in Torrance, California then moved with his family to Northern Virginia and was employed by Comsat in Bethesda. Later he started his own business which he eventually moved from Alexandria to St. Michaels. George was a Founding Member and Chairman of the Board of the Mobile Satellite Users Association where he provided outstanding contributions and leadership. Additionally, he was on the Talbot County Village Center Board as a representative of the Village of Neavitt. Throughout his life George enjoyed being on the water; sailing, fishing, and kayaking. His spirit of adventure often led him to destinations in Asia, especially to Thailand where he loved riding motorcycles through the countryside and sampling the local cuisine. Among his other interests were reading about politics and foreign affairs, working HAM radios and spending time with his family and friends in Neavitt.
George's strength, honesty and loyalty made him a special person to all who knew him. His intellectual curiosity, quick mind and creativity were admired by all. Generosity and kindness were extended to all who crossed his path. George's family mourns his loss. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife Arlene, his daughters Jennifer and Marie, stepson John, granddaughters Lily and Heidi, his brother Tom and wife Patty, nephew Brad, Joyce and Jay Tota and their family and Carole Ciaio and her family.
We will cherish all of the good times! Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation 1317 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 Arrangements are by the Ostrowski Funeral Home, St. Michaels, MD.
