Gerald Towers' Obituary
Gerald A. “Jerry” Towers of Denton, MD passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 at Caroline Home for Hospice in Denton. He was 70 years old.
Jerry was born Nov. 8, 1940 in Ridgely, MD, the son of the late E. Grover and Elizabeth Ellwanger Towers.
He was a graduate of Caroline High School Class of 1958. He retired in 1992 from E.I. DuPont in Seaford, DE. Jerry was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church. He was an avid sports fan playing and managing softball during the 1970’s. He enthusiastically supported his favorite teams, the Orioles, Baltimore Colts, and Ravens. Jerry enjoyed cheering for #24, his favorite Nascar driver as well as listening to country music. He took pride in his garden, but his greatest joy was being “Poppy” to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Todd Towers, whom he married May 23, 1964, a son Scott A. Towers of Denton and his fiancée Sherri Holder, a daughter Kristi L. Schmidt and her husband Glenn, of Ellicott City, MD, three grandchildren Tyler L. Schmidt, Julia L. Schmidt, and Hunter M. Towers, mother-in-law Mary Ann Todd, sisters-in-law Bonnie Vogt (Torbert) and Joy Johnson (Rob), brothers-in-law Roland Todd (Janice) and David Todd, Sr. (Sherry), nine nieces and nephews, and nine cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home with Rev. Denzil Cheek officiating. Interment will follow in Concord Cemetery near Federalsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be
