Gilbert Gerald Banning's Obituary
Gilbert Gerald Banning Sr. passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024. He was 86 years old.
Gerald was born July 13, 1937 in Easton, Maryland the son of the late Gilbert Alton Banning and Nora Mae Hastings Banning.
He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in Pennsylvania in 1956. During his career he worked for his father's companies, Service Trucking Company and Tri Gas & Oil. He also worked as a dispatcher for Trinity Transport and Pyramid Transport. He took over the family farm, raising 180,000 chickens, black angus, and pigs. After retirement, Gerald had a lawn care business.
Gerald was a charter member of the Idlewild Ruritan Club. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends. He kept busy crabbing, fishing, hunting, cutting grass, and going to Chick-fil-a with his dog Tucker.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue Nagel Banning whom he married on November 14, 1959. One son, Jerry Banning (Marcia) of Federalsburg, MD, one daughter, Diana Banning Cohee (Johnny) of Preston, MD, a son-in-law, Chuck Becker of Federalsburg, MD; 8 grandchildren, Ashlie Neild (Lee), Brent Cohee (Whitney), Chad Cohee (Stefanie), Jena Banning, Jared Banning, Lauren Phillips (Josh), Hunter Hitchens, and Spencer Hitchens; 11 great-grandchildren, Kinslee Cohee, Grant Neild, Brooke Neild, Adley Cohee, Alex Cohee, Cainen Cohee, Nellie Hunteman, Chase Cohee, Logan Phillips, Nora Phillips, and Maeve Phillips. Two sisters, Barbara Marine of Easton, MD and Janet Brown of Greenwood, DE; a brother-in-law Dale Nagel (Gail) of Easton, MD, a sister-in-law Deana Banning of Seaford, DE and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Shirley Ruark and Carole Banning; two brothers, Edward Banning and William Banning; two daughters Sherry Lynn Banning and Keli Lyn Banning Becker; a grandson John Merrick Cohee III and granddaughter Angel Lyn Hitchens.
Viewing will be held at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg, MD on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 10:00 a.m - 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. There will be a private burial at Hillcrest Cemetery in Federalsburg, MD.
