Gilbert O. Waters' Obituary
Gilbert O. Waters, 87, passed away at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD on Tuesday, June 23, 2010, at 12:44 p.m.
He was born April 14, 1923 in Hurlock, MD to the late William Henry Waters, Sr. and Mary Lelia Thompson Waters.
Gilbert was educated in Dorchester County and graduated from F.D. St. Clair High
School in Cambridge, MD. He was employed with Conrail-Amtrak for 36 years and Burns Security for over 20 years retiring from both in 1985. Coming out of retirement
he worked for Allen Foods and B & G Pickle Company for several years as a security guard until his health began to fail.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, reading and watching his favorites
shows: WWE Wrestling, The Food Network, CNN and Walker Texas Ranger. Being able to see the first African American president was a great joy for him and he could spend hours following the news coverage and talking about it.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 61 years Mildred, and five daughters: Shirley Jones-Hicks (Elbert), Chestertown, MD; Sandra Friend (Marvin), New Castle, DE; Gloria Jenkins, Federalsburg, MD; Patricia and Glendora Waters, Hurlock, MD. One son, Brian Waters, Sr. (Sarah), Preston, MD; a foster son, John Quailes, Jr., Bridgeville, DE; a grandson, Marvin Jenkins and a great grandson, Carlton Dotson, Jr., that he raised as his own. 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren. A special cousin, Elaine V. Spry, Berlin, MD; special nieces Connie Faulk, Augusta, GA; and Deborah Waters, Hurlock, MD and a special nephew, Douglas Cephas (Thelma); Landover, MD and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Purnell, Milton and William Waters, Sr. and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Hurlock United Methodist Church in Hurlock with the Reverend Brown Officiating. Interment will follow in Petersburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8p.m. Monday evening at the church and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday
