Gladys K Adams' Obituary
Gladys Esther Kalinevitch Adams, 89, of Greenwood, Delaware passed away on July 25, 2021 at Bayhealth Medical Center.
She was born on April 2, 1932 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania to Nicholas Kalinevitch and Gladys Margaret Smith Kalinevitch. She graduated in 1950 and married her high school sweetheart, George Adams, on October 14, 1950. She worked as a key punch operator and forklift operator at Dover Air Base from where she retired.
Gladys is survived by her children: Lee Adams, Jackie Lyons, Nick Adams and his wife Debi, and Barbara Adams; twelve grandchildren: Crystal and Keith Brock, Stephani and Chris Adams, Derek and Katie Adams, Steven Lee Adams, Carrie Adams, Mike D'Armi and Hope Seery, Juli Shapiro and Lisa Shapiro; and eleven great-grandchildren: Tyler Evans, Sydney Papenheim, Libby Adams, Peyton Adams, Brady Adams, James Adams, Dylan Brock, Parks Pusey, Max Pusey, Asher Adams, and Ophelia Seery.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Washington Norman Adams, son Steve Adams, and daughter Shirley Adams.
Gladys often said, "I want to have fun. What else is there but fun!" She relished in putting on her red nose and surprising those she encountered everywhere she went such as doctors, restaurant workers, and friends. Gladys was an avid reader and talked with deep understanding on many topics. She easily made friends everywhere she went. Gladys had a variety of interests and hobbies. She was a Star Trek and Star Wars fan, she learned to knit and made beautiful blankets and other items for friends and family, she took painting classes and created several beautiful art pieces, she loved cooking and trying new recipes. She was well known for her brownies and fudge which always brought top bids at charity and political auctions. She created new recipes for the Delmarva Chicken Cooking Competitions and many of her recipes were published in cookbooks. Gladys traveled often with her husband before his death. They made frequent cross-country trips, various trips to Canada, Mexico and Hawaii. In 2017, she became an avid ice hockey fan of her favorite team, the Vegas Golden Knights and took a long anticipated hot air balloon ride. In 2018, Gladys enjoyed a lengthy visit to Scotland and the English countryside. In 2020, she traveled to Iceland with her daughter, Barbara. She loved to go to new places, see shows, plays, concerts, eat out and try new cuisine. Gladys took frequent drives to ferries and ocean sites nearby with her son Nick and daughter-in-law Debi. She loved family dinners where she was surrounded by all members of her family and extended family. During her last weeks, Gladys was looking forward to taking more drives to see places and try new things.
Internment service will be held at St. Johnstown Cemetery in Greenwood, Delaware on Monday, August 2nd at 11 a.m. After the service a party to celebrate her life will be held at 304 Governors Avenue, Greenwood, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department are suggested.
