Glenn was a classmate of mine in middle school. The boy I remember was incredibly strong. Our gym class together was always a good time. My friend Quiana used to give her best Jim Carrey (Ace Ventura) impersonation while hanging onto Glenn’s biceps or calves. No matter how hard she squeezed she couldn’t over power him (not in the slightest). The sight of there antics were so comical, it makes me chuckle thinking back on it today.
Glenn used to playfully elbow me in my arm as he walked past my desk in Mrs. Russell’s english class. When I turned to look back at him he had those animated eyes that twinkled when he was deeply amused. He often had a mischievous smirk that tore at the corner of his lips.
The last time I saw Glenn, it was the summer of 2017. It was early in the evening, I was coming out of the Acme as he was going in. We both paused briefly to say hi, mostly because of the girl that was with him. That little blonde haired beauty was knee-high to a grasshopper and had characteristics strikingly similar to his own. I thought she was his, but it turned out she was his niece. It was good to see him after all the years that had passed since we were kids.
On January 1, 2020, I learned of his passing. I felt grief and loss of the boy I knew long ago. He was always polite and kind to me. I pray his family finds peace in knowing his memory will live on.
