H. Ferdinand Nagel's Obituary
H. Ferdinand Nagel passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015 at his home near Federalsburg. He was 90.
He was born on the family farm in Federalsburg on September 1, 1924, the son of the late Christian Nagel and Minnie McMahan Nagel.
He graduated from Federalsburg High School and began working in the family farm at a young age. On January 5, 1946, he married Norma Willis Nagel. Together, Dad and Mom began their own farming operation; a small humble beginning with a few cows and a few acres. They worked side by side building their farm at one time that included cows, chickens, hogs, and 900 acres of land.
He was recognized as an outstanding poultry producer several times by the poultry companies. He was a member of the Delmarva Poultry Industry (DPI), the Farm Bureau, and the Holstein Dairy Association. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church for 68 years. His passion was his farm and his family.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Norma Willis Nagel of Federalsburg, six children, Harry Nagel and his wife Janice; Henry Nagel and his wife Yvonne; Richard Nagel and his wife Connie; Larry Nagel and his wife Brenda all of Federalsburg, Nancy Sturgeon and her husband Mike of Seaford, and Carol Wilkins and her husband Guy of Georgetown; fourteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four siblings, C. Brooks Nagel, Esther Joseph, C. Coolidge Nagel and Myers E. Nagel.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Union United Methodist Church at 1:00 with the Reverend Dan Gedmen and the Reverend David Heistand officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg from 6:00 to 8:00, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
