H. Louis Jones' Obituary
H. Louis Jones of Neavitt died on April 3, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was 88 years old. Born September 1, 1927 in Bozman, Md., he was the son of the late Harvey S. and Hettie Thomas Jones. He attended school in Neavitt and graduated from St. Michaels High School in 1945. Being too young to join the Army, he joined the Merchant Marines for a year and then entered the Army and was sent to Korea for one year. After being honorably discharged, he married Frances Kinnamon from Tilghman on April 18, 1948. He worked for John Prettyman painting houses and then as a self-employed commercial waterman. After semi-retiring from his career as a waterman, he continued to spend summers crabbing and still went “nippering†to catch, shuck, and prepare oysters for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, which were spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed all aspects of outdoor life, especially hunting with his son, grandsons, and great grandsons. In his spare time, he and his wife spent over twenty years carving and painting decorative wood decoys including: ducks, geese, and birds, most of which went to his family. Each year, he donated a decoy to be auctioned for the Neavitt Methodist Church. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family celebrating birthdays, holidays, and was known to be a permanent fixture at all sporting events of not only his own children, but grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Larry K. Jones (Pat), and Joyce J. Plutschak (Dick); grandchildren Bert Blades (Gabrielle), Christi Longenecker (Keller), Alaina McDermott (Brad), Steve Plutschak (Danielle), and Sarah Pearson (Dusty), great grandchildren Kadan, Brennan, Bailey, Lila, Vivian and another great grandchild on the way. He is also survived by a brother Joseph Jones (Helen), their family, and one cousin, David Smith (Nancy). A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00PM at the Ostrowski Funeral Home P.A. 312 S. Talbot Street, St. Michaels, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 2:00PM. Burial will be in the Neavitt Cemetery, Neavitt, MD. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Neavitt United Methodist Church P.O Box 185, Neavitt, MD 21652 or Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601.
