We were office-mates at Dartmouth in 1957-8 when the attached photo was taken. I spent a wonderful summer that included a visit to Ciudad Juarez with Chip and Donna in 1961 when they got to Los Alamos. We were in DC in, I believe, 1969 at the APS meeting where he got knifed, resulting in his moving to lower altitude -- Livermore. He bravely lived through the losses of Beth, Donna, and Barbara. Rest in peace, Chip.
Chip and I met when I was asked to lead the division at Livermore that he was leaving for an assignment in Washington, DC. I owe a lot to his sage advice and for his kind and thoughtful mentoring of someone not used to the pressures at a national lab.
Years later, my wife and I socialized with Chip and Donna in Washington. He was a good friend and will be missed.

Chip was a friend and colleague for over 50 years. I first met him in Berkeley in the 1960's when I was a graduate student and he was a visiting scientist. We stayed in contact and following my graduation and post-doc he contacted me about a job opportunity in Los Alamos and was instrumental in my first (and for my whole career -only) professional job at LANL. We collaborated on many projects over the years - he was very knowledgeable in physics but had a quiet, unobtrusive mannerism that made him extremely easy to work with. I feel privileged to have known him. I will certainly miss him very much.
