Harold R. Lane
Easton, Harold Roy Lane of Heartfields, Easton, formerly of Bozman, died at the University of MD. Medical Center, Baltimore on Monday, January 30, 2012. He was 78.
Born in Caroline Co. on September 8, 1933 he was the son of the late James Roy and Maude Butler Lane. Harold attended Dorchester Co. Public schools, and in 1951 enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he made a career for more than 26 years. During his time in the military, he served as a food service Superintendent to high ranking officials, some of which would have Harold transferred to their command. Following his release from active duty with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, he and his wife, the former Nell V. McQuay returned to their beloved Easternshore, settling in Nell’s hometown of Bozman. Not to be kept idle for long Harold began using his skills learned in the military to work at various places in Talbot Co., including Head Chef at Calhoon M.E.B.A., the Miles River Yacht Club, and finally becoming the Cafeteria Manager at Easton High School for more than 15 years. After leaving his position with the School System, Harold spent time as a part-time crabber until retiring totally due to health reasons. Following the death of his beloved wife Nell in February 2002, he moved to Easton.
Harold was a member of the Bozman United Methodist Church, and the St. Michaels Granite Lodge 177.
Mr. Lane is survived by a brother; Alvin Lane of Centreville, Md. three sisters; Marie Chance of Easton,MD., Betty Williamson of Federalsburg,MD., and Ruth Rice of Seaford, DE. His devoted brother-in-law Edwin “Buddy” McQuay and wife Joann, and Charlotte Sieling all of Bozman. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, Great nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Harold was preceded in death by 5 brothers; Ralph, Roger, Donald, Lee, and David. One sister: Frances Butler, and a very special friend and companion his beloved dog Fred.
Friends may call at the Hurley & Ostrowski Funeral Home P.A. St. Michaels, on Sunday February 5th from 2:00 to 4:00PM. Funeral service on Monday February 6th at the Bozman United Methodist Church at 10:00AM.
Burial will be private.
