Harold Mac ("Mac") Brittingham's Obituary
Harold “Mac†Brittingham Easton, Mac Brittingham of Easton, peacefully left this life on March 21, 2014 at the Talbot Hospice House. He was 79. Mac was born in Pocomoke City, MD on July 8, 1934, he was the son of the late Harold Mac, Sr. and Thelma W. Brittingham. He and his family lived in Pocomoke until Mac was 4 years old, when his family moved to Easton. Following his graduation from Easton High School in 1952, he joined the Maryland National Guard. After completing basic training he began a career with what was known then as C&P Telephone Co. which later became Verizon. Mac started as a lineman and advanced to Manager of External Affairs for the entire eastern-shore covering 61 cities and towns at the time of his retirement in 1995. Mac could not remain idle following his retirement he did consulting work in distance learning for several schools and colleges around the state. He also earned his realtors license. He worked with Lacaze-Merredith / Long & Foster in Easton from March2001 until September 2012. In addition to being a member of St. Marks U.M.C. in Easton, Mac’s other memberships include; chapter president of the telephone pioneers for 2 years, president of the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce from 1986 to 1989, past president of the Easton Rotary Club, past Exalted Ruler of the Easton Elks Lodge B.P.O 1622, a position he held two times. He also held the office of District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the Maryland, Delaware and D.C. Elks Association. He served on the board of the Waterfowl Festival where he was benefactor and chairman of the warehouse. He served on the boards of both upper and lower shore technology center, was a member of the advisory board for the Perdue School of Business at S.S.U. and was a registered lobbyist for the telephone Co. In 1990 he was named chairman of the Delmarva Chicken Festival, a board member of Tangier Sound Festival from 1993 to 1996. He was also very involved in the Cerebral Palsy Telethon, and active in the Boy Scouts. Mac was very proud of his children, their spouses, and his grandchildren. He loved them all very much. Mac is survived by his wife; Dorothy A. Brittingham, whom he married on January 13, 1956; two children; M. Dawn Darragh and her husband Tim of Pasadena, MD., Roderick C. “Rod†Brittingham and his wife Debbie of Catonsville, MD., one sister; Mary Ann Seiter of Easton, and two grandchildren; Kelly Brittingham and Christopher Darragh. Also survived by eight nieces and six nephews. In addition to his parents Mac was preceded in death by a sister; Winifred Koontz and a brother Donald “Donnie†Brittingham. At his request a memorial service will be held at the Easton Elks Lodge on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 1:00PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Mac’s name to the Talbot Co.
