Dr. Harvey Eugene Mast, Sr.'s Obituary
Dr. Harvey E Mast of Greenwood was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at the Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus in Milford, Delaware. He was 88.
He was born on April 24, 1937 in Greenwood, Delaware; the son of the late Alvin Mast and Cora Schrock Mast.
He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1955, received a Bachelors degree from Eastern Mennonite College in 1959, and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1963. He worked most of his career as a General Practitioner in Milford, Delaware, retiring in 2002.
He was married to Grace Mast on June 19, 1959. They made their home in Greenwood, DE after spending time in Virginia for education and a few years in the mission field.
He was a life-long member of Greenwood Mennonite Church.
Dr. Harvey E. Mast faithfully served in the Gideons International ministry for 52 years, having joined in September 1973 at the age of 37. At that time, he was maintaining a full-time medical practice, was married to Grace Beachy Mast, and together they were raising their three young sons.
Harvey was first a member of Kent County Camp South. When the state leadership determined that additional camps were needed in lower Delaware and Virginia, Harvey accepted the assignment to help expand the ministry. He played a key role in opening the Mason Dixon Camp in southeastern Delaware. In later years, that camp would divide into the Sussex East Camp and Sussex North Camp, of which Harvey was a member.
Dr. Mast was also the founding father of the Accomack County Camp and the Northampton Camp in Virginia. Under this expanding ministry effort, the Accomack County Camp was at one time ranked number one in DelMarDic (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.). Harvey's long and faithful service leaves a lasting legacy of Christian witness, leadership, and commitment to sharing God's Word.
He is survived by three sons: Harvey E Mast, Jr. and his wife Karen of Harrisonburg, VA; Ralph A Mast and his wife Deborah of Richmond, VA; and S Neil Mast and his wife Christina of Carlisle, PA; five grandchildren: Michael Mast, Nicole Hayes, Aaron Mast, Joseph Mast and Daniel Mast; and two Great Grandchildren: Andrew Mast and Travis Mast.
