Hattie Marie Ross Hopkins, 79 of Seaford, DE, departed from this life, Monday,
August 19, 2013, at Genesis Healthcare Facility in Seaford, DE.
Hattie was born at home on August 11, 1934, on the Delaware/Maryland line. She was the daughter of the late Thomas “Cooper” and Ada Ross.
In 1950 she accepted the Lord and attended the Clarence Street Church of God and has been on the battlefield ever since. August 19, 2013, at 11:18 am at which time her battle had been won. Her faithful service included; Ushering, Prayer Warrior, Women’s Choir, various committees and a member of the Ladies Willing Worker Band.
Hattie received her education in the Maryland School District. She completed CNA training through PGH in Salisbury, MD. Her occupations included CNA at Methodist Manor House in Seaford, DE and Cheer Home Health Agency in Georgetown, DE. After 30 years of working she retired in 2001.
Hattie was a very meek and humble woman. She never complained. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, volunteering at the Blind Association and was an active member of the Senior Day Program until her health started to fail. But most importantly her joy was spending time with her family.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Harrison Hopkins Sr. in 1952, and to this union were 7 children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Hopkins Sr., and oldest son Harrison Hopkins, Jr. 2 sisters; Betty Ray from Philadelphia, PA and Annie “Peggy” Davis from Apopka, FL, and 1 brother, Thomas Ross of Seaford, DE.
She leaves to mourn 4 sons; Joseph (Frances), Sylvester “Too Tall”, Arthur (Lorrianne) Hopkins all of Seaford, DE and Kevin Hopkins and Cassandra Myles of Bridgeville, DE. 2 daughters; Vera Hopkins of Seaford, DE and Faith Ann (Nelson) Beach of Laurel, DE, and a daughter-in-law Arlean Hopkins of Laurel. 7 grandchildren; Yolanda (Rodney), Demetris “Tot”, Kenya (Christan), Patricia (Ayi), Arthur Jr. and Tyrell (Nichole) and Darius 7 great grandchildren; Stephone, Rodney, Deontre’, Amari, Ictavan, Promise and Shyheim. 1 Sister, Alberta Waples of Seaford, DE. 4 Sister-in-laws; Estella Hopkins of Bridgeville, DE, Mildred Hopkins of Greenwood, DE, Helen Hopkins of Boston, MA, Mammie Ross of Camden, NJ. In 1977, Hattie adopted her sister’s grandchildren, Sylvia and Lee Washington. 2 God-daughters the late Evelyne Cannon and Evangeline Cannon and a special Godson Roland “Skippy” Stewart and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 11:00 at the Clarence Street Church of God in Seaford, DE. The Bishop Carlton Cannon, Sr. will officiate. Friends may visit at the Church from 9:00 to 11:00. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery in Seaford
