Hazel M. Spoerl's Obituary
Hazel M. Spoerl of Preston, Maryland passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Caroline Nursing and Rehabilitation in Denton, Maryland. She was 96.
She was born on August 8, 1925 in Cambridge, New York, the daughter of the late Benjamin McClellan and Ada Beattie McClellan.
She graduated from Cambridge High School. She was married to James Spoerl on December 27, 1944. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2004 after 59 years of marriage.
She worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield as an administrator. She retired in 1978.
In her free time, Hazel enjoyed cross stitch, working in her home and her yard, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, Ronald Spoerl and his wife Sharon of Rising Sun, Maryland; four grandchildren Michael Schuhart, Kelly Ann Spoerl, Vanessa Gwilliam and Dawn Gwilliam; five great grandchildren: Bridget Vitilio, Tony Vitilio, David Jones, Daisy Griffen and Brian Sauer.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson Brian Gwilliam and three sisters: Ada McClellan, Dorothy Chapman and Bertha Greenway.
Burial will be private at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Beulah.
