Hazel Bradley Wheatley's Obituary
Hazel Bradley Wheatley of Federalsburg, MD peacefully passed away on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 at the LifeCare at Lofland Park in Seaford, DE. She was 90 years old.
She was born, June 10, 1919 in Federalsburg, the daughter of the late Robert Henry Bradley and Ruth Mills Bradley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil James Wheatley on Aug. 23, 2002.
She attended Hurlock Elementary School through grade 4. When her parents moved to the Federalsburg area, Hazel attended and graduated from Federalsburg High School.
Following graduation, Mrs. Wheatley worked as a secretary for nineteen years at the former Excelsior Pearl Works in Federalsburg. Later, she worked for a short period of time in the office of the former County Trust Bank in Federalsburg. She was an avid collector of antiques and tastefully displayed them throughout her home. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, the Philathea Circle, and the Federalsburg Historical Society to whom she had generously donated many articles. Mrs. Wheatley was well known for her generosity of gifts and donations to friends, the sick and the needy. Her cakes, brownies, macaroni and cheese, and egg custards were frequently made for her family and friends and happily received.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan Wheatley Hammond, and her husband, Donald, of Seaford, DE, a grandson Cody Caleb Hammond, of Seaford, a brother Norman Bradley and his wife Joanne, of Federalsburg and two nephews, Duff McConnell and his wife, Gina, of Preston and Luke McConnell and his wife, Vickie, of Denton. A sister Betty McConnell preceded her in death on May 12, 2009.
Funeral services will be held on Thurs. Nov. 5, 2009 at 12 Noon at the Framptom Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m.
