"Bud" Shorter's Obituary
Hazelton Jefferson "Bud" Shorter Jr. died on Friday October 18th at Mallard Bay Nursing and Rehab in Cambridge, Md.
Born on June 22, 1941, he was the son of the late Hazelton J. Shorter Sr. and Doris Sparks Shorter. He was born and raised in St. Michaels, Md.; at a young age Bud had the love for cars. It began when he was helping his parents at the
Bud's Tydol Station. His young adult life he went on to race cars, he raced at Delmar, Georgetown, Little Lincoln, Willow Grove and Virginia Motor Speedway in his #4 1958 Plymouth and his his #47 1963 Impala. As his family grew he didn't race anymore but he went every Friday and Saturday to be a spectator. In the 1980's he purchased his 1965 Teal Green Chevy Malibu SS, he loved that car and you would see him in various parades and car shows all over Delmarva.
Bud worked at various places during his life including Noble Ford in Easton. He later worked for Southern States Petroleum where he delivered gas, oil on the Eastern Shore, he retired after more than 44 years of service. He was also known as gas man on the CB. Soon after retiring he realized retirement wasn't for him and he went back to work at various jobs. He was a people person and like talking to everyone. His last job was delivering auto parts for Kunkel Auto Parts delivering parts, from Kent Island to Snowhill. He finally stopped working at age 80.
Bud loved sports and Coached Little Baseball for the MRYC in St. Michaels, and Softball for P.T. Hambleton. In addition to being an Umpire for Home Run Baker League.
He was a member of the Chesapeake Classic Car Club for over 30 years, passed member of the Maryland Chevelle Club.
He is survived by his loving wife the former Bonnie Lou Mulder who he married on September 17, 1966. They just celebrated their 58th Anniversary. His children Jeffery Shorter of Easton, a daughter Kelly Sann (Dennis) of Preston, Md., grandchildren Cory Shorter, Caraline Shorter, Jacob Sann, Delainey Sann and Kendall Sann. Bud was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, friend, and co-worker. He will be missed dearly.
A visitation will be held at the Framptom Funeral Home-Ostrowski Chapel 312 South Talbot Street, St. Michaels, Md. Thursday evening October 24, 2024 at 6pm to 8pm.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM Friday October 25, 2024 St. Luke's United Methodist Church, St. Michaels at 11am with Pastor Bob Davis officiating.
Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery Easton.
