Helena Hawkins Griffin's Obituary
Mrs. Helena Hawkins Griffin from Federalsburg, MD, died at her home on November 5, 2022 at the age of 99.
She was born on May 1, 1923 in Corsica Neck, MD, the daughter of the late Holland and Ada Hawkins. She worked at Friel's Canning Factory and many other occupations retiring from the State as a Social Worker.
She graduated from Kennard High School in Queen Anne's County Maryland. she received a Certificate of Appreciation from Upper Shore Aging, Inc. She also received a Certificate for Maryland's Most Beautiful Person Award for Community Volunteering from Caroline County Government. She also received the AARP Maryland Magnificent Grandparent award. She served on the Women's Society, Outreach, Community Civic League, Senior Choir at Zion United Methodist Church in Federalsburg, MD. She was the treasurer at the Federalsburg Community Civic League. She volunteered at the Federalsburg Senior Center. She was a long standing member of Earl's Chapel United Methodist Church in Centerville, Maryland and a standing member of Zion United Methodist Church in Federalsburg, Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Herbert Griffin, a grandson Charles Andrew Griffin, 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
She is survived by her 3 children: Charles E. Griffin, Shirley M. Littlejohn and Herbert Junior Griffin. She raised her granddaughter, Monenia Griffin, and her niece, Gloria Seney. She is survived by 11 grandchildren: Rodney Sylvester Griffin, Yaolanda Vanessa Mae Griffin-Washington, Ty Stanley, Sandra Jones, Mary Stephanie Ann Parker, Monenia Victoria Griffin, Cheryl Griffin Hart (Donald), Bisa Serwaa Strickland, Alana Michelle Griffin, Rasal Williams, and Shanell Williams, 19 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, one sister, Ada Hawkins and 2 brothers, Archie Hawkins (Essie) and James Hawkins. The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregiver, Sister Thelma Aldridge.
A funeral service for Mrs. Griffin will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Union United Methoditst Church in Federalsburg. The family will received friends Friday, November 11, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg and Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Union United Methodist Church.
