Herbert Griffin, Sr.'s Obituary
Herbert Griffin, Sr. of Federalsburg died at Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the age of 94.
He was born on February 3, 1917 in Centreville, MD the son of the late Virgil Griffin and Gertrude Roberts Gross. He worked as a dairy farmer for many years including over 22 years at the former Glime Dairy near Federalsburg. He then went to work for John N. Wright cannery at Hyson where he was the boiler operator. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helena Hawkins Griffin who he married on December 30, 1940, two sons; Charles Edward Griffin of Hurlock and Herbert Junior Griffin and his wife Brenda of Federalsburg; a daughter, Shirley Mae Littlejohn of Temple Hills, MD; and he also raised Monenia Victoria Griffin of Washington, D.C. and Gloria Seney of Wildwood, NJ an adopted daughter, Brenda J. Magee of Federalsburg; 11 grandchildren, Rodney Sylvester Griffin, Yolanda Vanessa Mae Washington, Charles Andrew Griffin, Mary Stephanie Ann Parker, Sandra Jones, Monenia Victoria Griffin, Cheryl Denise Hart, Bisa Serwaa Strickland, Alana Michelle Griffin, Rasul Williams and Shanell Williams, 19 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, three brothers, Frank Gross of Wilmington, DE, Jack Gross of Chestertown and Walter Gross of Wilmington, DE and a sister, Gertrude Ryan of Centreville, MD. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Harold Griffin and Raymond Gross; and three sisters, Lillian Hawkins, Marie Hawkins and Ruth Gross. Funeral services for him will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg with Dr. Vanessa Stephens Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Federal Hill Cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at Zion United Methodist Church in Federalsburg on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 and also on Saturday at Union United Methodist Church from 12:00 to 1:00.
