Hilda Mae Hammond's Obituary
Hilda M. Brummell Hammond, formerly of Federalsburg, MD passed away at her home on Friday, April 8, 2011. She was 94.
Born Nov. 4, 1916 in Caroline County, MD, the daughter of the late Samuel Roger Brummell and Ella Gertrude Tilghman Brummell. Her husband, Clifford Hammond preceded her in death.
She attended Lockerman High School and worked in local canneries. She was a member of the former John Wesley United Methodist Church near Federalsburg. She enjoyed reading, studying the Bible, and cooking, and was inspired by watching Gospel TV programs. She attended Kingdom Empowerment Christian Church in Seaford.
She is survived by six children, Vivian Hammond of Bridgeville, DE, Ruth Campbell of Millsboro, DE, Angela Hammond of Laurel with whom she made her home, Donnell Hammond, Linwood Hammond and Mervin Hammond, all of Bridgeville, 30 grandchildren, a host of great, great-great and great-great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annie R. Woods of Federalsburg, and Mary I. Blake of Bridgeville, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marie Hammond, two sons Charles and Merrill Hammond, eight siblings, Charles, Louis, Sr., Samuel, Jerome, Willie, Walter Brummell, Sarah Turner and Eva Mae Brummell; a granddaughter Anita Campbell, and great-granddaughter Destiny.
Funeral services will be held Sat. April 16, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Kingdom Empowerment Christian Church in Seaford, De with Pastor Mason McGill officiating. Interment will follow in Federal Hill Cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
