Ira Joseph Barnes, Jr's Obituary
Ira Joseph "Joe" Barnes, Jr. of Bozman passed away peacefully at the Pines in Easton on Friday, July 17, 2026. He was 87 years old.
Born in Baltimore on June 1, 1939, Joe was the son of the late Ira and Helen (Evoy) Barnes, Sr. Following high school Joe enlisted in the US Air Force and traveled the world with the USAF Drum and Bugle Corps. After four years he was honorably discharged. Following his time in the service Joe graduated cum laude from the University of Baltimore and went on to work for Baltimore Gas and Electric for 28 years. He retired in 1989 as an energy consultant.
On November 26, 1982 Joe married his wife Eleanor. After his retirement Joe and Eleanor moved to Eleanor's family home in Bozman on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Joe fell in love with life on the Shore and enjoyed being out of the urban setting. In his free time, he enjoyed crabbing and reading. He was involved in his community as a past member of the Elks and Moose. Joe was also a dedicated Ravens fan.
Left to mourn Joe are his wife Eleanor Barnes; his children Judith A. Carey (Thomas), Michael J. Barnes (Charlotte) and Donna Marie Marshalek (James); his step-children Charles C. Slike (Danielle) and Stacy A. O'Meara; his nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and his sister Mary Ellen Lewis.
A funeral service will be held at Framptom Funeral Home in Easton (30 N. Harrison Street) on Monday, July 27, 2026 starting at Noon. There will be a visitation the same day for one hour prior to the service time. Burial will be private and at a later date.
