Irene Virginia Messick's Obituary
Irene Virginia Messick of Federalsburg went to be with her Lord, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008 at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge, MD. She was 80 years old.
She was born July 13, 1928 in Denton, MD, the daughter of the late Arthur McCracken and
Anna Marie Wilson McCracken.
She worked as a nurses aide in local nursing homes and in private care. She was a member of the First Church of God in Federalsburg where she taught Sunday School for many years, served in the Nursery, and sang in the choir.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert Myers Messick, whom she married on April 27, 1946, four children, P. Ronald Messick (Pamela) of Federalsburg, Linda D. Slacum (Meyer) of East New Market, MD, Pastor Larry R. Messick (Jenny) of Springfield, OH, and Richard W. Messick (Tammy) of Ellerslie, MD; 9 grandchildren, Cheri Ware, Jenny Truitt, Donnie Taylor, Ronnie Messick, Jr., Robert Messick, Terry Messick, Clay Messick, Heather Messick, and Eric Messick; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Emma Mae Downey of Harrington, DE and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of God in Federalsburg with her son, Pastor Larry P. Messick officiating, assisted by Rev. Peter Smith. Interment will follow in Unity-Washington Cemetery in Hurlock, MD. Friends may visit the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Friday. Serving as pallbearers will be her six grandsons.
