Preston J. Fairbank
Easton: Preston J. Fairbank of Wittman, died at the Genesis HealthCare “The Pines†on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. He was 92.
Born in Wittman on April 21, 1919 he was the son of the late Millard and Mary Marshall Fairbank. After attending public school in Wittman and St. Michaels, Mr. Fairbank enlisted in the U.S. Army in May of 1941, where his tour of duty took him to France , Europe and Africa during WWII. Following his release from active duty in 1945, he returned to Talbot County where he began a career with the Harrison & Jarboe Food Processing plant in McDaniel, Md. Mr. Fairbank worked there until the plant closed in the late 1960’s After that time he worked at various places which included; Bay Shore Foods Hatchery in St. Michaels, Wheaton Tubing in Easton and finally Allen’s Foods Hatchery in Hurlock.
Mr. Fairbank is survived by two son’s; Sam Fairbank and his wife Kay of Preston, George Fairbank of Norfolk, VA; one brother; Raymond Fairbank and one sister; Thelma Jackson both of Easton, numerous nieces and nephews. Preston is also survived by his pen-pal Pat Rytlewski, of Bay City Mich. They had maintained contact with since 1943 while he was stationed in Germany, during the WWII. At that time she was in the third grade. Both Preston and his wife considered her part of their family. In addition to his beloved wife Gloria M. Fairbank who died on May 25, 1991 he was preceded in death by four siblings; Alice Higgins, Avery Fairbank, Thurman Fairbank, and Kenny Fairbank.
Funeral Services will be held at11:00AM on Monday, May 2, 2011, at the Hurley & Ostrowski Funeral Home P.A. of St. Michaels, where friends may visit from 10:00 to 11:00AM .
Burial will be in the Neavitt Cemetery.
