James D Burklew's Obituary
James Dudley Burklew, known fondly as "Jim" or "Burky" passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at his home in Rehoboth Beach. He was 79.
Jim was born on May 12, 1938 in Easton, MD, son of the late Thomas R. Burklew and Edith Biscoe Burklew. He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Katherine Donovan Burklew who passed away on January 16, 1987.
Jim went to school in Preston and enlisted in the National Guard in November 1954. He then served his country in the United States Coast Guard. During his time in the coast guard he served his duty in New York Harbor, Baltimore, and the Chesapeake Bay. After his time in the military he moved to Federalsburg in 1959. He started at E.I. DuPont in Seaford in 1961 and then went on to work for different construction companies. Jim went to work in 1968 at the Local 2012 in Seaford as a carpenter and millwright and after 30 years of service he retired in 1998. Upon his retirement he moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Jim is survived by a son, Ronnie Burklew, two stepchildren, Dennis Fishell and Terry King, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Burklew Plutschak.
At his request, services were private.
