James R. Butler's Obituary
James Butler of Hurlock, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at UMSMC at Easton. He was 72.
He was born on November 20, 1944 in Easton and was a son of the late James William Russell and Elsie Butler Jones.
James was employed as a forklift driver for Kraft foods in Dover, DE for 34 years until his retirement. Some of his favorite pastimes included bowling, cutting the grass, and riding his motorcycle. He was well known for his sense of humor and could often be seen telling jokes and stories. James enjoyed watching sports especially the Baltimore Orioles and the Miami Dolphins. Most of all he was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend. He was a member of the original Thunder Gaurd Motorcycle Club since 1973.
He is survived by his wife Thelma Butler, nine children Regina Matthews (Darnell) of Hurlock, Tracey Whitaker (Jerry) of Hurlock, James Butler, Jr. (Stephanie) of Chicago, IL, Victoria Smith (Leon) of Hurlock, Sharron Butler of North Carolina, Ronte Butler (Vanda) of Hurlock, Tiffany Brown (Willie) of Fruitland, Jeremy Butler of Hurlock and Jordan Butler of Hurlock; a special friend Stephanie Ware of Hurlock; seven sisters Doris Bolden of Hurlock, Harriett V. Jones of Federalsburg, Sadie E. Jones of Federalsburg, Diane Beulah (Ford) of New Jersey, Joyce Brummell of Seaford, Deborah L. Jones of Federalsburg, and Jonie G. Dixon of Federalsburg; two brothers Larry Sharpe (Rose) of Preston and Ferman Butler, Sr.(Mary) of Hurlock; two adopted sisters Deanna Ayers (Preston) of Salisbury and Mary Jones of Bridgeville; two brother in laws Oliver Jones and Charles Jones; six sister in laws Etta Butler, Doris Camper, Evangeline Jones, Loretta Thomas, Martha Price and Valerie Turner; 24 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Besides his parents, he preceded in death by a daughter Ebony Taylor, two sons James Butler and John Balkcom, two brothers William Howard and Donald Butler, two sisters Frances West and Mable Jones, and one adopted sister Virginia Dotson.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg with the Minister Jeffery Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Coppins AME Churchyard in Jonestown near Preston. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
