Obituary: James E. Mowbray, Sr.

James E. “Jimmy” Mowbray, Sr. of Federalsburg passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, DE. He was 83.
He was born on July 18, 1930 in Denton, Maryland, the son of the late John H. Mowbray and Pauline Bradley Mowbray.
He was educated in Caroline County schools. On August 12, 1950 he married Evelyn Harmon Mowbray and together they made their home in Federalsburg. Jimmy worked for the former Preston Trucking Company in Preston. After retirement, he founded Mowbray and Sons Excavation. Jimmy took pride in his work always helping the community by volunteering his time and services when he could. He enjoyed antique cars, especially his Model A Ford, gospel concerts, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Mowbray of Federalsburg, four daughters, Marcia Chambers and her husband Gary of Federalsburg, Karen White and her husband Phil of Federalsburg, Debby Taylor and her husband Calvin of Preston, Valerie Barham and her husband Jeff of Columbia, SC, two sons, Robert Mowbray and his wife, Judy of Federalsburg and Kevin Mowbray and his wife Diane of Federalsburg, 15 grandchildren; Carey Nepert and her husband Eric, Douglas Robinson and his wife, Melinda, Kelly Robinson, Stephanie Robinson, Robin Wooters and her husband Dave, Trey White, Allison Blankenship, and her husband Mike, Laura Ackerson and her husband Chuck, Benjamin Taylor, Matthew Taylor and his wife Jamie, Bobby Barham, Ryan Barham and his wife, Jordan, Kelsey Barham, Marlys Romine and her husband Brian, and Chelsea Mowbray; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild expected, four brothers, William Mowbray, George Mowbray, Wilson Mowbray, and Thomas Mowbray; three sisters, Helen Lewis, Evelyn Slacum and Dorotha Childs; and a host of nieces, nephews, and the beloved family cat, “Buddy”.
He was preceded in death by a son, James E. “Sonny” Mowbray, Jr., two brothers, Paul Mowbray and Leroy Mowbray, and three sisters, Betty Lynch, Ruth Geisel, and Anne Rayfield.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 2:00 at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with the Reverend Denzil T. Cheek officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 on Monday evening and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
