James S. Thiel's Obituary
James A. Thiel St. Michaels, Jim Thiel left us on April 14, 2014, to join his Rosemary whom he lost in November 2, 2011.
James Sidney Thiel, Jiminy to his friends, came to St. Michaels with the love of his life Rosemary in the late 90’s and soon became the memorable bartender at Town Dock Restaurant. He loved dealing with his customers and helping them to enjoy their St. Michaels experience and would often tell them about many of the points of interest around the area. A number of his customers would make seasonal trips to visit with Rosemary and Jim, enjoying both their company and the sites at the same time. A few may have thought him to be a bit of a curmudgeon but most of us knew he was a caring friend willing to help anyone at the drop of a hat. He loved telling stories and jokes and always enjoyed a good glass of wine with a fine cigar.
Jim was raised and spent much of his life in New Jersey and is the second of four boys born to Joseph and Sherry Myrtle Thiel. He ran his own businesses providing services in roadway construction and drywall installation. In this area Jim became known for his ability to make perfect drywall repairs. Jim had many friends and family that will miss him greatly. He is survived by his brothers Joe, Jr., Michael and Steve and their families. He is also survived by Rosemary’s sons, his step sons Paul Robbins, Sean Robbins and Thomas Robbins and their families as well as his sister Irene Bremme and brother in-laws John and Tim Martin. He considered the staff at Town Dock his local family and considered his wife’s best friend Donna Hunt to be his closest friend and “the sister he never hadâ€.
Jim had made plans for his final time with us and had asked that they be carried out as closely as possible. He did not wish a formal service, but instead wanted to have his friends join together like we all had for his bride Rosemary and remember old times over a bit of food and a good drink. In keeping with his wishes Jim’s ashes will be delivered to New Jersey for internment with Rosemary at Lakeview Cemetery in Cinnaminson, N.J. A gathering to celebrate his memory will be held at Town Dock on May 14 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Arrangements are being handled by Ostrowski Funeral Home in St. Michaels, Maryland. For on line condolences you may visit www.ostrowskifh.com and add your thoughts if you wish. Jim asked that those wishing to do so should make a donation in his memory to either the St. Michaels Volunteer Fire Department at 1001 South Talbot Street, St. Michaels, Md., 21663 or the St. Michaels Food Bank at PO Box S, St. Michaels, Md., 21663.
