James "Jamie" Lynnwood Garrett's Obituary
James Lynnwood “Jamie” Garrett of Preston, MD passed away on Wed. Aug. 11, 2010 at his home. He was 14 years old.
He was born Nov. 13, 1995 in Baltimore, the son of Richard A. and Linda Marvin Garrett.
He was entering 10th grade at Colonel Richardson High School where he played football as a member of the Class of 2013. He played the tuba in the school’s marching band, concert band and jazz band. He played the double bass on the praise team at Harmony United Methodist Church and in pick-up bands. He enjoyed wrestling, hunting, fishing, crabbing and trapping. He was a member of the National Trappers Association where he earned national speed setting championships three times. He was a member of the Maryland Fur Trappers Assoc., and a member of the Caroline County 4 H active in the rifle, shotgun and archery clubs. He had also won the State 4 H Public Speaking Contest twice.
Besides his parents, Richard and Linda Garrett, he is survived by paternal grandparents James R. and Helen Garrett of Rappahannock Academy, VA,
four uncles Wayne Garrett, Douglas (Pat) Garrett, Brent (Rene) Garrett, all of Rappahannock Academy, VA, and Steve (Donna) Garrett of Richmond, VA; two aunts Joyce (Eric) Gorgas of Brevard, NC, and Patty (Rusty) Felton of Marlinton, W VA; many cousins, and several great aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents George S. W. Marvin and Alice C. Marvin.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the Harmony United Methodist Church with Rev. Rebecca Kelly and Rev. Mark Farnell officiating. Friends may call on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church and on Sunday from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
