Jane Anderson Engel
Jane Anderson Engel died on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the William Hill Manor, Easton, Md. She was 94. She was born in NYC on January 4, 1918 the daughter of the late John and Catherine Anderson of Jackson Heights, N.Y. and graduated from Brooklyn Polytech, with a degree in Accounting and the CPA. She and her family later moved to Ridgewood, N.J., where she was Comptroller of an engineering firm. At the beginning of the "space program," she held top secret clearance-- preparing contracts for electronic equipment used in the U S Space program. Upon moving to the Eastern Shore in 1971 she and her husband, G. Curtis Engel, traveled extensively by sailboat and motorhome. Jane was board member and officer of various local organizations, treasurer of Christ Church of St Michaels, and a charter member of Cruising Sailors of St. Michaels. She was also a dedicated volunteer at Easton Memorial Hospital for ten years. However, Jane's favorite time was spent with family and friends. She was an eternal optimist, a lover of reading & social activities, with a wonderful sense of humor and a great love of life. Her passing was without pain. Jane is survived by her son, Dr. Douglas C Smith, Ph.D, two grandchildren, Cathay Yvette-Nikka Smith Dodson, JD, and Michael Douglas-Clayton Smith (student) and stepdaughter Joyce Spavin and family. Services will be private. Donations may be made to St. Michaels Fire Department, 1001 S.Talbot St. St. Michaels, MD. 21663. Arrangements are by the Hurley & Ostrowski Funeral Home P.A., St. Michaels. .
