Jane Atkinson Thurman's Obituary
Jane Atkinson Thurman a resident of Harbor Health Care in Lewes, DE died at Bebee Medical Center in Lewes on Monday, October 4, 2010. She was 84.
She was born on Apr. 15, 1926 at Concord near Federalsburg the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Wright Atkinson. A son, Billy Jopp preceded her in death.
She was a former employee of the former Service Trucking Company of Federalsburg and she retired as Supervisor of the Rehoboth Beach City Parking Department on January 1, 1992.
She enjoyed sewing and making crafts, but mostly enjoyed her great-grandchildren and had lived in Milton, DE since her retirement.
She is survived by a daughter, Penny Garnett of Millsboro, DE, and three sons, Boyd “Hoppy” Glessner and Gary Glessner and his wife Melva Jean of Fairhope, PA and Ray “Starkey” Glessner and his wife Pat of Seaford, DE and seven grandchildren; Dean, Tammy, Larry, Laura, Georgeanne, John and Ashley and seven great-grandchildren McKenzie, Gracee, Luke, LeAnn, Lance, Christian and Austin and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters Hattie Curry and Miriam Jaeger, and two brothers, Dutch and Robert Atkinson.
Graveside services for her will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 12 noon at Hillcrest Cemetery off of Bloomingdale Avenue in Federalsburg with Rev. Howard Dunn officiating.
The family has suggested that donations be made in her memory to Hope for Lyme, in benefit for her granddaughter Tish McQuay, P. O. Box 2011 Millsboro, DE 19966.
