Janice Viola McNeal's Obituary
Janice Viola McNeal, age 72, of Preston, Maryland, passed on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at UMSMC at Easton. She was born August 19, 1943 in Dover, Pennsylvania to her parents Francis E. and Francis R. (Barnhart) Eckenrode, third of five children.
Jan grew up outside Dover, Pennsylvania. A loving child, she enjoyed music and excelled in scholastics. She graduated from York Catholic High School in 1961. Soon after she attended College Misericordia in Dallas, Pennsylvania graduating with her Bachelors degree and teaching certificate in 1965. The next year she moved to Maryland attending University of Maryland, College Park, where soon after was awarded a masters degree. After many years as a history teacher at Crossland High School in the Prince Georges County, Md, she moved to The Eastern Shore of Maryland where she completed the required coursework and testing, attaining her license as Certified Public Accountant, working in Talbot County, Md until her retirement. Jan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and most of all being around family and friends.
Jan is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Charles McNeal of Preston, Md; Her four children; Kalene McNeal of Charleston, SC, Janel McNeal of Harrisburg, PA, Lyle McNeal and his wife Erin Joi of Atlanta, GA and Andrew MacSorley and his wife Joy of Chestertown, MD; Two grandchildren, Brittany Burtis and Conor A. MacSorley; Sister, Rozalia Gillete and her husband Gary; Brother, Mark Eckenrode and his wife Judy; and several nieces and nephews.
Jan is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Gloria Calaman and Marian Eckenrode.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with the Reverend Howard “Buddy” Dunn officiating. Interment will follow at Junior Order Cemetery in Preston. Family will receive friends a half hour prior to the service.
