Jean Loretta Brummell's Obituary
Jean Loretta Adams Brummell quietly stole away to glory from her home on Monday, August 26, 2013, she was 74 years old.
Jean was born November 23, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Katherine Adams Nichols and the late Elijah Truxon.
She received her education at Lockerman School. She married her husband Freddie, on November 26, 1955 and from this union they had four sons.
Jean attended beautician school in St. Michaels, Maryland, under the instruction of Mrs. Ford. After completing her training and receiving her license, she opened her own practice at home and beautified the heads of many people for over 30 years. If that wasn’t enough, she worked for the Caroline Board of Elections and was also a substitute bus driver (Guess for who?). If she had spare time, she loved to travel. But always made time to spoil the grandkids.
As a young child, she would walk to church with her grandmother, Lottie (Stanford) Adams, where she received Christ and became a lifetime member of Ross Chapel AME. During her years, she served God in numerous positions, such as, member of the Maryland Harmonettes, member of the Usher Board, Sunday School Teacher, and founder and director and seamstress of the Community Gospelettes. (Can’t you just hear her singing “Everybody Ought to Praise His Name “ I’m Blessed”?) She also held the position of Worthy Matron for the Fellowship Chapter #58 Order of Eastern Star, from 1975-1976.
Jean was best known for her beautiful smile, her love of family, and who could forget those sweet potato pies, that watergate salad, and my, oh my, that hot milk cake.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 57 years, Freddie; 4 sons, Fred Jr. (Bernette (D), Derick (Yvonne), Shelton, and Kevin (Cynthia), 4 grandchildren, Orlando (Becky), Kevin II, Derick, Jr., and Sierra; one brother-in-law, James (Jimmy) Brummell, Jr.; one sister-in-law, Jeanette Brummell; one uncle, Lewis Adams, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Ross Chapel A.M.E. Church in Pinetown near Preston. Friends may call at the church on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. An Eastern Star Memorial service will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday evening at the church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Memorial contribution may be made to Shore Homecare Patients Assistance Fund, 121 Federal Street, Suite 3, Easton, MD 21601.
