Jean E. Miller Moore's Obituary
Jean E. Miller Moore, 94 died the evening of September 15, 2022 in Greenwood, DE.
She was born December 10, 1927 In Garden Spring, PA to the late Isaac and Ada Stoltzfus Riehl. On November 14, 1953 she married Ammon Miller who preceded her in death on June 28, 2010. On November 26, 2012 she married Russell Moore who preceded her in death on June 15, 2021.
She was a charter member of Cannon Mennonite Church; now Gateway Fellowship where she attended as long as she was able. Then she attended Greenwood Mennonite Church and Living Hope Fellowship with her children.
Jean was a cook at Greenwood Mennonite School for over 30 years. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home and she did it often. The family and friends also enjoyed her good cooking and sweet iced tea. Canning and freezing vegetables from a large garden Ammon tended was a yearly activity. She and Ammon attended many gospel bluegrass concerts together. She was close to her sisters and she looked forward to their annual "sisters weekend" and activity they maintained for decades. In her later years, she attended Cheer where she met Russ. She was still attending there five days a week until she became sick in August. She will be fondly remembered for her love of family and friends and her faith in God.
Survivors include three children: Virgil Miller of Harrington, DE, Bruce (Ellie) of Denton, MD, and Peggy (Gene) Miller of Greenwood, 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters: Dorothy Blank, Norma Retallack, Bertie Smoker, 5 step-sons: Paul, Pete, James, Daniel and David Moore and their families; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister: Virginia Bender, and 5 brothers: Bob, Leroy, Jerry, Ken and John Riehl.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Living Hope Fellowship Church in Greenwood from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Gateway Fellowship Church Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Living Hope Fellowship.
