Jean McAllister Wright's Obituary
Jean Claire McAllister Wright, 93, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025 at The Dixon House in Easton, MD. Born on January 28, 1932 in Van Lear, KY to Ethel Wooten McAllister and William Thomas McAllister.
She grew up in Preston, MD and graduated from Preston High School and Goldey-Beacom Business College in Wilmington, DE. After graduation, Jean worked for E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. Experimental Station in Wilmington, later transferring to the du Pont Nylon Plant in Seaford, DE.
In 1952, Jean married William (Billy) Edwin Wright, Jr. They lived in Yuma, AZ from 1952-1955 while Bill served in the U.S. Air Force and Jean worked at the Securities Acceptance Corp. After returning to Preston, they raised 3 children, Danny, David & Diane. Jean worked at Preston Elementary School as an aide for several years.
In 1973, Jean and Billy began a hobby of creating beautiful hand-carved and painted miniature waterfowl figurines and jewelry. They exhibited and sold at waterfowl shows over the next 30 years, including Easton's Waterfowl Festival.
In 1979, Jean and Billy visited the island of Aruba and for the next 26 years vacationed there, often accompanied by their children and grandchildren. Billy later passed away in 2005.
Jean was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Curch and the Women of Bethesda.
Jean is survived by her 3 children: Danny and wife Linda of Newark, DE, David and wife Marti of Trappe, MD, and Diane Dayton and husband Mike of Hurlock, MD. She is also survived by 5 grandsons: Steven Wright, Andrew Wright, David Adams, Jeffrey Covey and Brian Dayton; and 7 great-grandchildren: Christian, Kaylen, Emily, Mia, Michael, Gabriel and Megan.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Brandi Wright.
Funeral services will be private and at the convience of the family.
