Jesse Thomas Hitchens, Jr.'s Obituary
Jesse (Pete) T. Hitchens, Jr., 74, of Harrington Delaware passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by family and friends on August 25, 2024.
Pete loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, crabbing, sporting clays and bird watching - and if you wanted to buy a car, well Pete could sell a sno-cone to an Eskimo! He really enjoyed people, especially his grandchildren, and was quick to make a joke and make those around him laugh. He was known throughout the community as a patient, generous, kind-hearted, good-natured and fun-loving friend. Anyone that knew him knew how much he loved his McDonalds Coke, Grottos Pizza and Hellmann's Mayonnaise.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Mary Hitchens, sons Adam (Dawn), Jeremy (Engracia) and stepson Rick Cornell (Jennifer). Grandchildren Gavin Hitchens, Alexander Hitchens, Averett Hitchens, Taytem Hitchens, Todd Hitchens, Trayton Hitchens, Carter Cornell, and Blake Cornell. He is also survived by his sister, Anita (Missy) Willoughby of Choptank, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse T. Hitchens Sr. and Phyllis McDonald Hitchens and brother Wayne (Butch) Hitchens.
A Celebration of Pete's life will be held on Saturday, August 31st at Living Hope Fellowship, 13848 Staytonville Rd. Greenwood, DE 19950. Visitation at 10:00am with Service immediately following. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Pete's honor to Greenwood Mennonite School, 12802 Mennonite School Rd. Greenwood, DE 19950 where Pete was a track and field coach for many years.
