Jessie Mae Wheatley's Obituary
Jessie Mae Wheatley of Pitman, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, 3 months shy of her 100th birthday. She was 99.
She was born on January 3, 1919 in Hurlock, MD, the daughter of the late William Bailey and Gertrude Trader Bailey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Wheatley.
She worked at the former Excelsior Pearl Works for 30 years before working at Burton and Parsons Pharmaceuticals as a supervisor, and was a Rapid Plant manager for 10 years. She enjoyed singing in the choir at Gethsemane United Methodist Church in Seaford, DE, before moving to New Jersey and becoming a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church in Clarksboro, NJ. She also enjoyed operating a produce stand and her large garden for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Alice Jane Shinn and her husband Carl, her granddaughter, Dr. Andrea Leigh Shinn and her husband Andrew Hardy, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her nine siblings, Guy Bailey, Elsie Morgan, Ada Harding, Mary McMahan, Clifford Bailey, William Bailey, Dorothy Thawley, Ruth Dickerson, and Evelyn Coulburn, as well as a son, baby boy Wheatley.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 11am at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg, MD, with a visitation from 10-11am prior to the start of the service. Interment will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seaford, DE following the service.
