John Edwin Breuil's Obituary
John (Jack) Edwin Breuil of Eldorado passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 84.
He was born on December 20, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Edwin David Breuil and Edna “Dottie” Henry Breuil Godown.
He graduated from Doylestown High School and later enlisted in the United States Navy. He was married to Shirley Ann Powell Breuil. Together, they made their home in Eldorado. He worked for Delmarva Power & Light as a chemist and retired after 32 years of service. He also worked for E.I. DuPont in Seaford, Airpax in Cambridge, Hurlock Lumber, and M.Heber Lane, Preston Motor Company now known as Preston Ford.
He was a nephew to one of the founding fathers of Eldorado-Brookview Vol. Fire Department, where he served as past president, past chief, ambulance driver and Fire Police. Also, he served as past president of the Dorchester County Firemen’s Association, Dorchester County Firemen’s Hall of Fame, and past Mayor of Eldorado. He was also a 4-H leader and taught hunter safety instruction.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. He loved Christmas, especially spending time with his entire family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Breuil of Eldorado, six daughters, Melody Mitchell and her husband R.S. of Salisbury, Cheri Collier and her husband Jeff of Elkridge, Christy Willey and her husband Jim of Trappe, Valerie Keene and her husband Paul of Federalsburg, Layna Powell-White and her husband Dana of Hurlock, and Shelley Hill-Ellerbusch and her husband John of Eldorado, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. One sister, Judy Sponseller and her husband Wayne of Lancaster, PA, a cousin, Patricia Merritt of Ft. Lupton, CO, a brother-in-law, Donald Powell and his wife Margaret of Hurlock, and a sister-in-law, Blanche Powell of Hurlock.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Russell Powell, former son-in-law, Marvin Chance and great-grandchild, Alijah Simms.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kimmer Ann Travers, Chelo Hernandez, David Chance, Erik Ellerbusch, Adam Bruce, Bob Murphy, Norman Warrell and D.J. Reed, and honorary pallbearer John Phillips.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 5, 2016, at 10:00 at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with Pastor Ray Justice officiating. Interment will follow at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Beulah. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
