John Sapp Nichols' Obituary
John Sapp Nichols of Greenwood passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Bay Health Sussex Campus in Milford, Delaware. He was 97.
He was born on October 31, 1927 in Greenwood, the son of the late Frank Nichols and Laura Sapp Nichols.
He graduated from Greenwood High School. Later he enlisted in the United States Army. After his first tour of duty, he reenlisted for a total of three terms. He served in Korea twice and was awarded the Purple Heart. His career with the Army spanned more than 22 years and he was trained to track missiles and was very proud of his career. After his service, he returned home and worked as an electrician until his retirement.
John was a member of the Greenwood V.F.W. Post #7478, the American Legion, The Moose Lodge, and many other community organizations. In his free time, John loved the outdoors; hunting and fishing; and was an avid collector of guns and coins. He was also known to make home made raspberry wine; a real treat to his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Nichols of Greenwood; dear friends Richard Carlisle and his wife Kathy of Bridgeville, Dee Jones of Greenwood, Bill Stubbs and his friend Diane, Mickey and Carol Chaffinch, Ivan and Dorlene Mast, Russell Bradley, Hilmar and Christy Helgason and all of the girls who cared for Jack.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 2:00 at the Framptom Funeral Home - Fleischauer Chapel in Greenwood. Interment with military honors will be scheduled at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Friends may visit from 1:00 to 2:00 prior to the start of the service.
