John R. Redmon
Tilghman: John Richard Redmon (Jack) co owner of the Tilghman Island Inn and Realtor died on Friday, February 25, 2011, at his home on Tilghman. He was 75. Jack was born August 28, 1935 in Baltimore to the late George and Helen Redmon.After graduating from the University of Maryland, he practiced real estate in Washington D.C. for many years including being a part of the renaissance of Capitol Hill in the 1960’s. Among other things he went on to own his real estate company City Scapes and managed the commercial division of Dale Denton Real Estate. He also was in real estate in Annapolis and the Eastern Shore. At the time of his death he was an associate broker with LaCaze Meredith. In 1989 he and his partner, David McCallum purchased the Tilghman Island Inn. The Tilghman Island Inn has gained local and national recognition for outstanding dinning and lodging.
Gardening was one of his major passions. More than twenty-five years ago he received his Master Gardner Certification. It was the driving force in establishing the gardens at the Tilghman Island Inn.
He has served on the Board of the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce, the County Tourism Board and Committees of the Mid Shore Board of Realtors. Jack is survived by his partner of 30 years David McCallum, two step children, Mathew David McCallum and Andra McCallum Lurie, granddaughters Ava and Miraya, his sister Jane Rice, nephews Jack Rice and Stephen Brown and niece Leslie Thrasher and his extended family at the Tilghman Island Inn. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM at Christ Episcopal Church, St. Michaels, on Tuesday March 8, 2011.
