John Schnaitman Jr.'s Obituary
ST. MICHAELS—John E. Schnaitman, Jr. died October 18, 2016, at his home, “The Lot,†on beautiful Porters Creek. He was 90.
Born May 3, 1926, he was the son of John E. Schnaitman and Ruby R. Straughn. He graduated from St. Michaels High School in 1944 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in the South Pacific and was mustered out as petty officer third class Aviation Radioman. In 1951, John married Nancy Birmingham of St. Michaels. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service in St. Michaels and served as postmaster in McDaniel for several years before retiring.
John enjoyed vegetable gardening, crabbing and fishing, hunting, bird watching, and painting landscapes and still lifes. He was always cheerful and enjoyed having visitors.
John is survived by his three sons, Tommy (Holly), Gary, and John III; two granddaughters, Rachel and Maggie; and three great-grandchildren, Isabel, Ethan, and Olivia.
Services will be held November 5th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, St. Michaels.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the St. Michaels Volunteer Fire Department, 1001 S. Talbot St., St. Michaels, MD 21663.
