John T. Miller
Easton, John T. “Jack†Miller of Easton, died on June 27, 2011 at the Talbot Hospice House, Easton. He was 96
Jack was born on March 19, 1915 in the Clifton neighborhood of Staten Island N.Y. He was the son of the late John S. and Grace Robinson Miller. He grew up on Staten Island and in Metuchen, New Jersey. While attending Rutgers Preparatory School in New Brunswick, N.J. he won the state track championship in the half-mile. He graduated from Cornell University in 1939.
During WWII, Mr. Miller served as an insurance investigator supporting U.S. Navy construction operations in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and elsewhere in the South Pacific Theater. Thereafter he made a career as an insurance adjuster and executive, retiring from Kemper Insurance in Summit, N.J. in 1980.
An avid and skillful sailor, he spent much of his time in retirement sailing the east Coast from Maine to the Bahamas, on the sloop the “April One†along with his wife the former Irene Phillips Vokoun, whom he married in 1975, together, they restored and old house on East Chestnut Street, while living in St. Michaels. Jack enjoyed gardening woodworking and making clocks. He served on the Planning Board and was very involved in the St. Mary’s Square Museum serving as the Board President. In 2004 they moved to Londonderry.
In addition to his beloved wife Irene, Jack is survived by four children; John, Jr., Mary Ellen Ladd, Peter and Christopher, a step-son, Guy Vokuon, four grandchildren; Barbara Targum, Sara Schlenker, Katherine Miller and Henry Ladd and three great grandchildren; Lucy and Griffin Targum and Hannah Schlenker, one brother; James R. Miller and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Jack was preceded in death by a brother; Conrad Miller.
Service will be held privately.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Hurley & Ostrowski Funeral Home P.A. of St. Michaels, Md.
